About the Role
Under the guidance of the Director of News and Marketing, this position leads the strategic development and execution of all social content and campaigns to enhance the organization’s brand, increase engagement and traffic, and evaluate results. Responsibilities include creating engaging content for distribution across social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and other platforms such as the MCPS website and MCPS-TV. The role also involves assisting in determining news coverage, maintaining web pages, writing, editing, reviewing, and modifying communications department content, scriptwriting, and interviewing subjects for a variety of products. Applies creative and artistic judgment and skill in preparing communication materials.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute social media strategies to enhance brand presence and engagement.
- Create content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and emerging platforms.
- Cover events, produce photos and videos, and write stories that inform and inspire.
- Track engagement metrics (shares, likes, comments, impressions) and use data to refine content strategies.
- Assist in determining news coverage and maintain web pages.
- Write, edit, review, and modify communications department content.
- Scriptwriting and interviewing subjects for various products.
- Occasional event coverage for editorial content supporting organizational outreach.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of five years of experience using social media tools for a large organization or media outlet.
- Proven editorial skills, including strong language skills and the ability to adjust content to maintain brand voice, style, and tone.
- Experience with photo and video editing software, web content management, and design resources.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex communication issues involving multiple audiences, critical deadlines, and logistical planning.
- Deep understanding of social media marketing campaigns, including brand consistency, channel-specific messaging, performance tracking, and optimization.
- Strong ability to write clearly and concisely about complex topics under pressure.
- Familiarity with web communications, content management systems, emergency communications technologies, and analytics interpretation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and adherence to high journalistic standards and MCPS social media best practices.

Pay
The wage range for this position is between $34.32 and $50.62 per hour, based on years of service.
