About the Role

Under the direction of the principal and in collaboration with the School Library Media Program, the Multimedia Support Technician (MST) installs, operates, maintains, and manages inventory of multimedia technology. The MST demonstrates and trains staff, students, and community users on proper equipment use, serving as the primary point person for multimedia at school, cluster, or consortium activities, including sound, lighting, and radio/TV engineering. This role facilitates training for students and staff on both the mechanics and effective use of multimedia equipment, provides technical support for media specialists and instructional staff, and assists in implementing multimedia requirements for school administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point person for multimedia at school, cluster, or consortium activities, including sound, lighting, and radio/TV engineering.
  • Facilitate training for students and staff on the mechanics and effective use of multimedia equipment.
  • Provide technical support for media specialists and other instructional staff.
  • Offer technical and instructional support for electronic/broadcast media in studio spaces, auditoriums, gymnasiums, cafeterias, stadiums, and other presentation spaces.
  • Support school administrators in implementing multimedia requirements.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of multimedia technology.
  • Demonstrate safe operational practices, procedures, and training for multimedia technology and facilities.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
  • Climb ladders and work from high places.
  • Perform work requiring considerable walking, stair climbing, and moving equipment between rooms.

Special Requirements

  • Assigned to an individual high school as the primary place of employment but available for consultation with cluster or consortium schools.
  • Ability to work overtime as required for school or MCPS activities.
  • Some positions may require the use of a personal vehicle to transport equipment and materials.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland Class C non-commercial driver's license or equivalent.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience may substitute for the degree if consistent with relevant coursework.
  • Considerable coursework or formal training in visual/fine/performing arts, media production, radio/television, theater production, or related fields.
  • Experience with multimedia equipment and program production, including audiovisual communications and theater production, preferably in an instructional or client services environment.
  • Other combinations of education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree may be considered if they provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administrators to provide technical assistance with multimedia technology.
  • Knowledge of multimedia productions, including radio, TV, cablecasting, streaming, audiovisual communications, theater production, video/filmmaking, lighting, and sound systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications for presentations and non-linear video/audio editing.
  • Understanding of the construction, operation, and first-line maintenance of audiovisual, theater, radio, and TV equipment in an educational environment.
  • Aptitude for learning the technical characteristics and operation of new industry-standard equipment.
  • Expertise in maintaining and implementing safe operational practices for multimedia technology and facilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $31.35 and $46.19 per hour, based on years of service.

Schedule

  • Full-time.
  • 10 working months per year.
  • Day shift.
