Summary Description
The media assistant supports and promotes the vision and mission of School Library Media Programs under general direction of the principal and in collaboration with the media specialist. This role involves creating a warm and welcoming environment in the media center for all students, staff, and the entire school community. Media assistants work directly with students on a regular basis, aiding with instruction on information literacy skills, research skills, accessing online services, and library resources.
Responsibilities
- Aid in managing the school-wide library media catalog.
- Perform daily routine operations of the media center.
- Work directly with students on a regular basis.
- Give work direction to student aides and parent volunteers.
- Help in the orientation and training of new media assistants when applicable.
Requirements
- Ability to lift and move books, audiovisual equipment, and other equipment and/or objects weighing 25-30 lbs.
- Physical demands include stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
- Occasional operation of keyboard devices for extended periods of time.

Education, Training, And Experience
- High School or GED diploma required.
- Associates degree preferred or completion of 30 semester hours of college course work and/or one year of experience working with children in instructional situations required if no associates degree.
- Experience in using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and Internet.
- Experience working or volunteering in a library environment preferred.
Certification And License Requirements
