Summary Description
The media assistant supports and promotes the vision and mission of School Library Media Programs under the general direction of the principal. They collaborate with the media specialist to create a welcoming environment in the media center for all students, staff, and the school community. Media assistants aid in instruction related to information literacy, research skills, and library resource access. They manage the school-wide library media catalog and perform routine media center duties. They may direct student aides and parent volunteers and assist in training new media assistants.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and move books, audiovisual equipment, and other objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Requires stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods. Occasional operation of keyboard devices for extended periods.

Job Specific Information
Wage Range: $23.42 - $33.53 per hour, based on years of service.

Education, Training, And Experience
High School or GED diploma required.
Associates degree preferred or completion of 30 semester hours of college course work and/or one year of experience working with children in instructional situations required if no associates degree.
Experience in using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and Internet.
Experience working or volunteering in a library environment preferred.
