About the role

Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) seeks a Full-Time Faculty member in Psychology to teach courses such as General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and others as needed in traditional, online, and hybrid formats. The start date is anticipated for August 3, with a January 4th start also considered.

Essential Duties

  • Instructs 15 credit hours per semester across multiple delivery formats, developing and delivering course materials including lectures, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluates student performance and maintains accurate records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Holds 10 on-campus office hours per week and maintains regular communication with students.
  • Participates in program assessment, curriculum development, and textbook selection.
  • Attends and fulfills all scheduled classes, meetings, and academic responsibilities.
  • Maintains an on-campus presence averaging 32 hours per week.

Professional Development

  • Maintain current knowledge in psychology through ongoing professional development and continuing education, including required certifications.
  • Serve on committees, advisory boards, and participate in campus governance.
  • Attend required meetings, ceremonies, and professional events.
  • Mentor new faculty and contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives.

Service to the College

  • Advise and support students in achieving academic goals.
  • Attend and fulfill all scheduled classes, meetings, and academic responsibilities.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Frequent manipulation of items with fingers, including keyboarding.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking.
  • Constant hearing.
  • Frequent talking.
  • Frequent close visual acuity.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations.

Environmental Conditions

  • Typically works in a professional office setting with moderate noise levels, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff.
  • Lighting is standard for office spaces, and the temperature is controlled to remain within a comfortable range.
  • May occasionally need to visit other areas, such as storage rooms, conference spaces, or outdoor locations, where environmental conditions may vary.
  • Infrequently exposed to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials.

Rate of Pay

The rate of pay is determined by faculty scale placement (education and years of experience), with the possibility of higher compensation based on qualifications directly related to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework related to the teaching discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in psychology or a related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and/or the community college.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology, including Canvas LMS (or willingness to learn).
  • Alignment with the mission and goals of Northwest Arkansas Community College.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.
  • The work environment typically consists of a professional office setting with a moderate noise level, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff.
