Location: Des Plaines / Skokie, IL – this position requires availability to teach on both campuses. Part-time faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis and paid on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE is the same as a credit hour; for others (e.g., Composition, lab-based classes), the LHE reflects additional work and is higher than the credit hour.
Pay
Starting rates for the 2026-27 academic year:
- $1,251 per LHE for faculty without doctorates
- $1,326 per LHE for faculty with doctorates
Faculty advance one step on the salary schedule after successfully completing two fall and spring semesters, each with 3+ LHEs taught.
Responsibilities
- Construct a course syllabus aligned with the generic course syllabus, outlining objectives, content, and grading criteria
- Prepare course presentations, instructional materials, and lab/clinical functions (as applicable)
- Deliver instruction, including meeting scheduled courses and labs on time
- Consult with and evaluate students
- Maintain clear records of student performance, attendance, and grading
- Comply with departmental and institutional policies, including grading submission, office hours, and instructional decisions (e.g., texts, assignments, grading standards)
- Adhere to provisions of the AFA contract and institutional procedures
Requirements
- Master’s degree in psychology
- Availability to teach in-person, daytime classes Monday–Friday on both the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses
Preferred Qualifications
- ABD or Ph.D. in psychology
- Prior college teaching experience
- Commitment to culturally competent practices and student-centered learning
- Proficiency in evolving technologies and active promotion of critical thinking
- Enthusiasm for innovation in teaching and non-traditional instructional delivery
