About the role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Full Charge Bookkeeper to oversee day-to-day financial operations for a mission-driven organization in Georgetown, Texas. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate records, supporting payroll and reporting activities, and helping leadership make informed financial decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong bookkeeping expertise, sound judgment with confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities with accuracy and consistency.
Responsibilities
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring invoices, payments, and vendor records are processed accurately and on schedule.
- Administer bi-weekly payroll for staff, including proper treatment of clergy housing allowances and related tax considerations in accordance with organizational guidelines.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements each month, investigate variances, and maintain organized records that support audit readiness.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, posting transactions correctly across funds and account categories.
- Produce monthly and annual financial statements for leadership and finance stakeholders, presenting information clearly and accurately.
- Monitor restricted and designated funds, ensuring contributions are tracked properly and used according to donor intent.
- Prepare annual contribution statements for donors and support charitable gift acknowledgment compliance requirements.
- Assist with budget development by compiling historical financial data and supporting planning discussions across departments.
- Complete quarterly payroll tax filings and year-end reporting, including W-2 and 1099 forms for eligible employees and contractors.
- Work with external accounting partners during financial reviews, compilations, or audits while maintaining compliance with nonprofit recordkeeping and reporting standards.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, ideally within a small or mid-sized organization.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, or similar accounting software used to manage day-to-day financial records.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliation procedures.
- Familiarity with fund accounting concepts, including the proper handling of restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Understanding of payroll tax reporting and year-end tax form preparation, including W-2 and 1099 processing.
- Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills for financial analysis, reporting, and budget support.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
- Experience in a church, ministry, nonprofit, or faith-based environment and knowledge of Texas payroll or nonprofit compliance requirements is preferred.
