About the role
Under supervision, the Front Desk/Call Center Specialist is responsible for customer service, registration, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification. Typical duties include answering multi-line incoming customer calls, completing online registration, scheduling appointments, and securing authorization for scheduled services. Operate CRT to gain and input information. Other related duties may include ambulatory float assignments at front desk and call center locations.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients via telephone to obtain demographic and financial information necessary to secure patient accounts.
- Verify insurance eligibility for outpatient services on all Third-Party Payers using various automated eligibility systems.
- Operate EPIC system to gain and input information; relay medical messages clearly and effectively to patients and clinic staff.
- Advise patients of clinic deposit requirements based on UCSD Medical Group Financial Policy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of customer service experience.
- Experience with registration, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification.
- Knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.
- Proficient computer skills with the ability to work between multiple systems during calls.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in an interactive environment with strong customer service skills in person and over the phone.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, handle deadlines, and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision.
- Proven problem-solving ability and good judgment to assist customers and meet their expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of EPIC & Cadence experience, or equivalent system.
- Call Center experience.
- Medical Assisting Experience.

- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
Pay
Annual Full Pay Range: $60,865 - $80,304 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.15 - $38.46

Schedule
- 50% appointment (part-time).
- Days, 8-Hour Shifts, Sunday-Saturday.
