About the role
Under supervision, the Front Desk/Call Center Specialist is responsible for customer service, registration, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification. Typical duties include answering multi-line incoming customer calls, completing online registration, scheduling appointments, and securing authorization for scheduled services. Operates CRT to gain and input information. Other related duties may include ambulatory float assignments at front desk and call center locations.
- Interviews patients via telephone to obtain demographic and financial information necessary to secure patient accounts.
- Verifies insurance eligibility for outpatient services on all Third-Party Payers by utilizing various automated eligibility systems.
- Operates EPIC system to gain and input information; clearly and effectively relays medical messages to patients and clinic staff.
- Advises patients of clinic deposit requirements based upon UCSD Medical Group Financial Policy.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of customer service experience.
- Experience with registration, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification.
- Knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to work between multiple systems during calls.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in an interactive environment and possess excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, handle deadlines, and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision.
- Proven problem-solving ability by using good judgment to assist customers and ensure their expectations are met.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of EPIC & Cadence experience, or equivalent system.
- Call Center experience.
- Medical Assisting Experience.

- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
Pay
Annual Full Pay Range: $60,865 - $80,304 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.15 - $38.46
