About the role

This position, under the direction of the ELC Director, is responsible for assisting in the administrative or support operations of the Early Learning Center (Quincy or Hanover) which will include promoting the YMCA mission, core values and encouraging life-long learning. This position is expected to greet current and prospective families to the ELC, schedule/facilitate tours and understand the overall philosophy of the ELC, enrollment process and classroom routines.

  • Assists with the planning and execution of tours and ELC events to meet the needs of the community and fulfill ELC and YMCA objectives
  • Assists with classroom routines ensuring compliance in all related areas including the Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) licensing procedures and regulations, Healthy Eating Physical Activity (HEPA) standards for young children, implementation of a chosen assessment tool, alignment to the Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education and MA Curriculum Frameworks/Common Core Standards as well as Quality Rating Improvement Systems (QRIS) level criteria as defined by program goals
  • Provides reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities to participate in activities whenever possible and to meet each child’s individual needs according to EEC and ADA
  • Directly assists program participants, teacher assistants and volunteers in accordance with the organization's policies, EEC regulations, applicable laws, and QRIS Standards
  • Works cooperatively with teachers in classroom plans, assignments, and supports staff and volunteer work
  • Maintain communication with supervisors for all staff related EEC and South Shore YMCA requirements
  • Builds relationships with and among families and members, responds to inquiries and solves problems
  • Creates a supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new families and connects families to the YMCA’s mission
  • Works with ELC Director and Assistant Director to ensure that program facilities and equipment for children are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained and attractive
  • Engages and supervises volunteers
  • Assists in SSYMCA fundraising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community

Requirements

  • High School diploma is required
  • Completion of a higher degree or in the process of completing a higher degree from an accredited college or university in Early Education, or related field is preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge and experience with the Department of Early Education and Care regulations and QRIS Standards
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with, staff, children & families, volunteers, school administrators, members, community leaders and other agencies are critical to this position
  • Must meet EEC Educator Professional Development requirements per QRIS standards and the Early Learning Center’s goals
  • Professional Development must include at least one third of required trainings that address diverse learners
  • PQ Registry must remain current and reflect all PD hours, trainings and college level courses
  • Effective teaching skills and the ability to implement methods to address and follow-up with family needs/concerns in a positive and professional way reflecting an attitude that values diversity
  • Willingness and ability to be part of the ELC educator team and attend staff meetings as scheduled
