Foster Care Internship: Indianapolis, IN

National Youth Advocate Program is accepting internship applications for the Foster Care team in Indianapolis, IN for the Spring 2027 semester. This position offers hands-on experience working with the foster care population and the opportunity to observe other therapeutic areas throughout the agency.

About the role

This internship works closely with youth, family, foster parents, and community partners. The role is designed for students enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work program from an accredited college or university, where an internship or field placement is a degree requirement.

Responsibilities

• Working with foster care youth and foster parents
• Assisting in case management
• Learning diagnostic assessments and treatment plans
• Assessing and engaging with youth
• Observing interventions for youth
• Interacting with caregivers, parents, foster parents, school staff, office staff, and other mental health professionals
• Learning documentation and paperwork
• Traveling daily to provide community-based services to youth and families

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work program from an accredited college or university
• Internship or field placement must be a requirement by the institution
• Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, and tablets, as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs

Driving and Vehicle Requirements

• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable personal transportation
• Good driving record
• Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability
