About the role
The NYAP Foster Care Internship offers hands-on experience working with the foster care population in a community-based role. Interns will also have the opportunity to rotate into other departments within the agency to gain a comprehensive understanding of NYAP's work.
Responsibilities
- Working with foster care youth and foster parents
- Case management
- Learning diagnostics assessments and treatment plans
- Assessing and engaging with youth
- Observing interventions for youth
- Interacting with caregivers, parents, foster parents, school staff, office staff, and other mental health professionals
- Learning documentation and paperwork
- Traveling daily to provide community-based services to, and on behalf of, youth and families
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in either a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work Program from an accredited College or University
- An internship or field placement is a requirement by the institution
- Upon completion, the individual would receive credit toward their pursued degree
- LSW or SWT licensure, or CT (for LPC students) required for master’s interns
- Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable personal transportation
- Good driving record
- Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability
