Must be able to obtain a Tier 1 background investigation. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and various hours of the day and week when required.

Responsibilities

  • Works under general supervision; higher graded employee or supervisor provides guidance and instructions.
  • Serves as a food service provider assisting in the preparation, presentation, and serving or delivery of light food items offered for sale to patrons.
  • Performs tasks associated with food service work, including:
    • Setting up and replenishing food, hot/cold drinks, and specialty items, along with associated condiments.
    • Preparing food displays in counter cases and other display units.
    • Greeting customers, taking orders, weighing or apportioning food, and receiving cash/credit payments.
    • Advising guests when orders are ready and delivering requested orders.
    • Assisting guests through the service line.
    • Securing funds, equipment, and food and beverage inventories.
  • Serves light food items from a service cart at a beachside resort property, including hot dogs, chips, ice cream, shaved ice, pretzels, nachos, and cold refreshments.
  • Replenishes cart supplies as needed.
  • Greets patrons, takes orders, receives money, and provides change.
  • Sets up and breaks down carts and supplies at the start and end of the day.
  • Follows proper sanitation and safety procedures, ensuring cleanliness of the work area.
  • Performs expeditor duties, such as delivering food to customers or bringing food to a service buffet area.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas, including counters, trays, tables, and utensils.
  • Sends and receives pans and utensils to/from the kitchen for cleaning and sanitation.
  • Orders, loads, unloads, stocks, and transports items and supplies as necessary.
  • Collects service trays after meals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Resumes must be two pages or less and clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities (KSAs).
  • Experience or training indicating sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position, including:
    • Ability to work without more than normal supervision.
    • Ability to maintain neat, clean, and orderly workspaces.
    • Basic food preparation and handling techniques.
    • Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.
    • Knowledge of basic sanitation principles.
    • Ability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals) to take orders, provide change, and determine portion sizes.

Skills

  • Ability to follow oral instructions, standard procedures, and understand task sequences.
  • Skill in performing multi-step tasks and using judgment in task sequences.
  • Knowledge of portion sizes to serve uniform individual portions.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic for order-taking, providing change, and determining servings.
  • Knowledge of food handling techniques, including sanitation and safety standards.
  • Adherence to sanitation and safety methods for cleaning areas and equipment.
  • Skill in communicating and dealing with guests to provide good customer service.

Responsibility

  • Complies with proper procedures, methods, dress, and hygiene codes.
  • Responsible for the correct operation and care of equipment.
  • Works as scheduled, following the sequence of steps needed to complete tasks.
  • Uses judgment in maintaining sanitation, safety, and service standards.
  • Responsible for taking orders, providing correct change, and safeguarding inventories and change funds.

Physical Effort

  • Work requires light to moderate physical effort.
  • May lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Requires constant standing, walking, reaching, and stooping.

Working Conditions

  • Work area is often hot and noisy.
  • Exposure to sun, minor cuts, bruises, burns, and scalds.
  • Danger of slipping on wet floors from daily mopping or spilled food/beverages.
  • Required to wear applicable personal protective equipment.

Pay

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, whichever provides more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible for extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.

  • Open to candidates who live in the commuting area (the Island of Oahu). If the area of consideration expands, all candidates will be considered. Relocation costs are at the candidate’s expense if residing outside the local commuting area.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized.
