Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance and repair operations for Class 8 commercial vehicles, including front-load, rear-load, roll-off, automated side-load, and other specialized vocational equipment
- Ensure proper diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension components, and emission control systems
- Develop and monitor preventative maintenance schedules to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtime
- Review repair orders, work quality, labor efficiency, and parts utilization to ensure cost-effective maintenance operations
- Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations relating to fleet maintenance operations
- Cookordination emergency repairs and equipment recovery efforts as necessary
- Manage outside vendors and service providers to ensure quality repairs and competitive pricing
- Evaluate shop productivity metrics, vehicle availability, maintenance costs, and downtime trends to drive continuous improvement
- Supervise mechanics and operational support staff
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) or High School Equivalency and six (6) years of relevant work experience
- Experience: Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible fleet maintenance experience with Class 8 trucks, heavy-duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and vocational equipment, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management capacity
- Knowledge: Experience utilizing fleet maintenance software and vehicle management systems, Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements, compliance standards, and maintenance recordkeeping, Extensive knowledge of Class 8 trucks, heavy-duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, vocational truck equipment, preventative maintenance programs, diagnostic procedures, and fleet safety practices
Skills
- Good organizational skills and work independently
Physical Requirements
- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, tools etc.) most of the workday
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds
- Occasional exposure to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.)
- Occasional exposure to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements
