About the Role

Serve as a driver's supervisor and representative in Operations. Manage driver performance in identified categories and be the primary communication link to drivers. Work to achieve optimum driver and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the sole communications link to drivers, including load information, advances, purchase orders, maintenance coordination, performance counseling, and dissemination of general company news and information.
  • Manage an assigned full board of tractors and drivers for optimum performance in the following categories:
    • Ensure data entry is always correct, minimizing coding errors on service failures (97% data entry accuracy required).
    • Maintain driver turnover within the ideal range (preventable turnover should never exceed 115%).
    • Achieve utilization goals (310-326 MPU overall; adjusted for dedicated freight as needed).
    • Minimize service failures by communicating customer expectations to drivers.
    • Monitor overall safety, including hours of service, unsafe driving, and CSA scores, as these affect bonus potential.
  • Ensure drivers are current on preventative maintenance for their trucks.
  • Update drivers on road conditions and restrictions as communicated by the Safety Department.
  • Communicate to HR in a timely manner regarding drivers' medical conditions or attendance issues.
  • Handle driver complaints, escalating them to the appropriate person or department for timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with Load Planners and other Fleet Managers to plan future workload.
  • Work with Service and Breakdown departments to maintain equipment and meet service schedules.
  • Think strategically and plan ahead in rapidly changing situations while maintaining a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Stay well-organized and engaged with team members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with co-workers and supervisors, exercising trust when issues arise.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or 1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Knowledge of TMW Database software, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in transportation.
  • Demonstrates decision-making ability with little supervision.
  • Intermediate user ability for Microsoft Excel.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
