Fleet Manager

Boscov’s Department Store is seeking a Fleet Manager based in Reading, PA to lead our 24/5 private fleet, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery operations across 51 stores, line-hauls, and a growing backhaul program.

About the role

You’ll oversee a local fleet where drivers operate day cabs Monday through Friday. This leadership position requires sharp decision-making and collaboration across corporate divisions to meet operational goals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a 24-hour private fleet, including delivery to 51 stores, line-hauls, and backhaul operations
• Monitor driver safety performance and ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other regulations
• Coordinate with operations/distribution to align fleet hours with daily volume fluctuations, seasonal demands, and ad hoc needs
• Manage equipment resources, including yard trucks, straight trucks, semi cabs, and over 600 trailers
• Assess transportation supplier market for outsourcing options, such as fleet leasing, maintenance, and accident management programs
• Develop and track daily operational metrics to improve on-time performance, efficiency, equipment utilization, and profitability
• Monitor monthly performance against forecasted targets
• Lead fleet safety initiatives in partnership with the Director of Transportation, enforcing policies, programs, and reviews
• Create and update fleet policies and procedures (e.g., vehicle assignment, replacement cycles, accident reporting)
• Own driver hiring, training, and development; maintain Driver Qualification files
• Establish measurable yearly goals and action plans to achieve priorities

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of managerial experience in transportation or fleet management
• Extensive knowledge of DOT, HOS, and OSHA regulations; ability to maintain compliance with company, state, and federal transportation laws
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with drivers, support staff, and senior management
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a team environment
• Bilingual skills preferred
