This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Davis Service Center a minimum of 1-2 days per week based on business needs.
About the Role
Responsible for providing mechanical engineering and technical expertise for all PG&E fleet vehicles and parts including design, analysis, industry standards and guidelines, manufacturer and vendor capabilities, quality assurance, and testing. Responsible for the design, illustration, revision, and presentation of technical drawings, layouts, schematics, and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Provides mechanical engineering and technical expertise for heavy duty vehicles and parts including design, analysis, industry standards and guidelines, manufacturer and vendor capabilities (i.e.: selection, ordering, purchasing, and delivery), quality assurance, and testing.
- Designs, illustrates, revises, and presents technical drawings, layouts, schematics, and specifications.
- Diagnoses and determines the root causes of vehicle and parts failures; evaluates vendor test data, and provides proven and tested solutions.
- Provides mechanical engineering assessments and reviews vendor assessments of vehicle and parts design.
- Participates in bid evaluations and project teams to ensure the best fit vendor designs and revisions are selected.
- Performs inspections at vendor locations to verify acceptance of vehicle and parts, in accordance with purchase orders and written estimates, specifications, and drawings.
- Collaborates with fleet management during the design and buildup of new vehicles and parts, and performs a final inspection at the end of the production cycle.
- Collaborates with PG&E garage personnel to ensure all fleet engineering issues and/or matters are resolved completely, accurately, and timely.
- Provides technical and engineering expertise, consultation, documentation, and support regarding vehicle accident investigations.
- Develops and monitors all capital spending plans for engineering projects to ensure cost targets are aligned with the budgetary forecasts.
- May provide training and instruction to lower job level fleet engineers.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (i.e.: Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Metallurgical) or equivalent experience.
- Three (3) years of related experience.
- Microsoft Office computer skills.

- Certification as an Engineering in Training (desired).

- Mathematical, algebraic, and geometric calculation skills.

- Computer skills.
- Fleet Vehicle Operations experience (desired).
- Utility industry experience (desired).
Pay
A reasonable salary range for this role in the Bay Area is $90,000 – $136,000. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
