Summary
Incumbent is responsible for enforcing rules and policies, monitoring the fitness center, and assisting patrons.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proper use of all fitness center equipment to patrons and provide assistance when needed.
- Correctly identify which muscle groups each machine targets.
- Independently adjust each machine to fit the patron’s needs.
- Versibly communicate usage instructions with patron.
- Independently recognize an emergency and provide appropriate care in a timely fashion.
- Clean fitness center equipment and general area.
- Ensures proper maintenance of equipment to provide a safe and sanitary environment, and notifies supervisor of any problems and/or concerns.
- Assists the general public and responds to their questions, comments, and/or concerns.
- Exercises responsibility for the equipment, materials, and personnel used in a given activity.
- Attends scheduled training and related meetings to coordinate and enhance various recreation programs and services.
- Buils positive relationships with patrons.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of fitness equipment and customer service principles.
- Knowledge of first aid, CPR, and safety precautions utilized in recreation.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, including proper use of cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance principles.
- Skills in performing manual labor and using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to work as a team player with other City staff.
- Ability to exercise resourcefulness when meeting new problems.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and/or receive work direction.
Education & Experience
- A high school diploma or GED.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; frequently stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; and constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and uneven terrain. Assignments to office or administrative work are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
