The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Business Enterprise Area of the Entrepreneurship Department, within the School of Business and Technology.

FIT offers a curriculum that blends hands-on, practical experience, classroom study, and a firm grounding in the liberal arts, with over 45 majors granting AAS, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, and MPS degrees. The Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology prepares students for leadership roles in the fashion and related creative industries, integrating market awareness, business environments, and advanced technology in a global context.

The Entrepreneurship for the Fashion and Design Industries Department fosters an entrepreneurial mindset, preparing students to create sustainable economic and social value. The program bridges the fashion tech start-up community and established companies, encouraging disruptive solutions to industry challenges.

About the role

The Entrepreneurship department is recruiting adjunct instructors to teach specific business classes to students in creative majors. Adjunct instructors are expected to teach a 15-week class schedule, engage in professional organizations, and maintain industry relationships. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to student-centered education, and alignment with FIT’s mission on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will be a creative and business professional with entrepreneurial experience in fashion, design, illustration, fine arts, spatial or visual design, production development, or related creative fields. Leadership skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver relevant course material and assess student performance.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom.
  • Submit grades on time.
  • Demonstrate professional capabilities in at least some of the following core competency areas:
    • Globalism: Awareness of global issues and their impact on business and creative industries.
    • Instructional Design: Balance theory and practical application, linking learning objectives across disciplines and accommodating diverse learning styles.
    • Learning Enrichment: Embrace new pedagogies (online, blended, experiential learning), inspire creativity, and support critical thinking.
    • Professionalism: Active participation in creative and business communities, collaboration with faculty, and support for department/college initiatives.
    • Technology: Effective use of technology to deliver course material, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to use learning management systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in the field or a closely related field.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the field.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • MBA or Master’s degree in the field or a closely related field.
    • Teaching experience at the college level.

Pay

Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The base rate is $89.98 per hour for candidates meeting minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and appointment rank may vary based on additional criteria outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules.

Schedule

This is a part-time adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain a pool of candidates for potential future assignments.
