About the Role
The Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) is a team of over 5,000 employees dedicated to improving the lives of more than 1 million Marylanders annually through economic support, preventive services, and care for children and adults. This contractual position supports the Family Investment Administration unit by conducting audits, managing the P10 budget, and performing fiscal and administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Develop tracking methods for expenditures and employment team financial transactions, maintaining a thorough audit trail for customers and vendor payments.
- Maintain up-to-date budget records, recommend spending adjustments, and complete plan amendments to ensure funds are used appropriately and on schedule.
- Collaborate closely with the TCA/Employment Team Supervisor and agency fiscal staff.
- Provide administrative support, including document scanning and coverage for the job center front desk.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- One year of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems, developing automated spreadsheets/ledgers/reports using accounting software, or identifying budget trends and recommending realignments.
Notes:
- Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical, or numerical data may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or financial field specialties may substitute for the required experience at a rate of one year of military experience per year of required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience using spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets).
- One year of experience creating journal entries and bookkeeping.
- One year of experience with the Maryland Financial Management Information System (FMIS) or other accounting software.
Limitations on Selection
Recruitment is limited to candidates willing to work in Calvert County, MD.
Additional Requirements
- Employees in this role may be assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
Benefits
- Contractual employees working 30+ hours per week (or averaging 130+ hours per month) may qualify for subsidized health benefits, with the State covering 75% of premiums and the employee responsible for 25%.
- Optional enrollment in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance (full premium paid by employee).
- Leave accrual at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
