This position is open to U.S. citizens and may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a background investigation. A one-year probationary period is required unless previously completed under 5 CFR Part 11.

Responsibilities

Perform firefighting and rescue operations.
Serve on a crew engaged in all-hazards response functions.
Perform emergency medical procedures to provide Basic Life Support (BLS).
Drive and operate firefighting/rescue vehicles and equipment.
Operate as a member of a hazardous material response team (GS-06/GS-07 levels).
Perform aircraft rescue and firefighting operations (GS-06/GS-07 levels).
Provide emergency medical care at the EMT level (GS-07 level).
Check out, drive, and operate all emergency vehicles and related on-board equipment in emergency and non-emergency modes.
Participate in the department’s wellness program, including a structured physical exercise program and annual physical examination.
Complete an annual emergency vehicle operations course.
Wear uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Work a 72-hour weekly tour on a 48-hour rotating shift schedule (144 hours per pay period), including evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Respond to recalls for emergency operations; maintain a functioning telephone at residence for contact during recall situations.
Travel up to 10% of the time for Temporary Duty (TDY) or business purposes.

Requirements

Must pass pre-employment and periodic medical examinations per DoDM 6055.06 to ensure physical health and ability to perform duties.
Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. as part of job duties.
Comply with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs; subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, including reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing.
Designated as Mission Essential; required to report to work or remain at work during severe weather or emergencies.
Designated as a "Key" position; cannot be vacated during national emergencies or mobilization.
Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions.
Capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance.
Maximum Entry Age (MEA) is 37; must be hired by the last day of the month reaching age 37. Rehires may exceed MEA if able to complete 20 years of covered service by mandatory retirement age (57 for firefighters).
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify Selective Service Registration.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements below. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer experience through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other organizations. Resumes must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts may be required if qualifying based on education.

Specialized Experience and Education Requirements by Grade Level

GS-04

Experience: One year of specialized experience performing all-hazards response operations as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade (equivalent to GS-03 level).
Education: Two years of education above high school in Fire Science, Fire Training, Paramedicine, or related fields.
Combination: A combination of education and experience may be used if the total meets 100% of requirements.

GS-05

Experience: One year of specialized experience performing all-hazards response operations and controlling hazardous materials incidents (equivalent to GS-04 level).
Education: Four years of education above high school in Fire Science, Fire Training, Paramedicine, or related fields.
Combination: A combination of education and experience may be used if the total meets 100% of requirements.
