Fire Suppression Technician (sign on bonus)

Up to a $2,000 sign-on bonus is available for candidates with ICC, FEX1, and E4 certifications, along with pipe threading and piping installation experience. Join our team as a skilled Kitchen Fire Suppression System Technician and help keep commercial kitchens safe by inspecting, repairing, and installing fire suppression systems. Experience with industry-leading manufacturers like Ansul, Amerex, Pyro-Chem, and Range Guard is essential.

About the role

The Fire Suppression Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, service, and repair of fire extinguishers, emergency exit lights, and pre-engineered suppression systems, including associated detection and control systems, with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Use required tools and test equipment (e.g., power machines, groovers, cutters, band saws, lifts) to repair or replace fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, and detection/control system components.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems, including all types of fire extinguishers and pre-engineered suppression systems.
• Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
• Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and detection/control systems.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
• Be punctual and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
• Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, and time on job; complete documentation accurately.
• Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication Program, policies, and procedures; participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
• Maintain awareness of safety documentation locations on each project.
• Keep company-provided vehicle clean and well-maintained per company policies.
• Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards.
• Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• State or other required certifications.
• 2+ years of experience in the Fire Life Safety industry, specifically within Fire Suppression.
• 2+ years of professional computer skills.
• Strong communication skills; ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and pass background screenings, including customer-specific requirements.

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequent bending, ascending/descending ladders/step stools/stairs, kneeling, lifting under 50 lbs, reaching above/below shoulders, standing, and walking for extended periods.
• Occasional balancing, crouching, driving, kneeling, lifting over 50 lbs, sitting, stooping, twisting, and working at heights.
• Ability to see in color, at close/far distances, peripherally, with depth perception, and adjust focus.
• Regular exposure to outdoor conditions, hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
• Occasional indoor office work, working alone, or with others.
• Consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies.
