Fire Service Technician (union)

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center with descriptions of equipment/system malfunctions.
• Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment/system problems.
• Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures, referencing technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices.
• Service, troubleshoot, and install fire & life safety systems from multiple manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating consistently with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction.
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones or laptops and obtain customer signatures upon completion.
• Participate in a scheduled on‑call rotation and mentor other service team members.
• Provide customers with high‑level service, solutions, and outcomes at the time of service.
• Perform panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolve low‑voltage circuit troubles, and conduct system testing.
• Organize and utilize technical resources, information, material, and support to assure efficient execution of tasks.
• Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels.
• Document all required task‑related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
• Occasionally work on‑call and after‑hours to meet customer needs.
• Provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes to improve facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures at all times.

Requirements

• 3+ years’ experience with fire alarm, access control, security intrusion, sound, and communications systems.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
• Good working knowledge of computers.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Physical ability to lift and move equipment and tools up to 50‑70 lb and work in unusual positions (ladders, scaffolding, high‑lift equipment up to 40 ft, ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings).
• Flexibility to work weekends and flexible hours to meet customer requirements; overnight travel may be required.
• Demonstrated high level of customer service.
• Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and quick learning ability.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting company requirements; retain any licenses required by national, state, and local codes.
• Commitment to safety guidelines and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical training (preferred).
• NICET Level II certification (preferred).
• Experience with CCTV, IT, and IP networks (a plus).

Pay

$39.45 hourly rate determined by the collective bargaining agreement/rate sheet.
