Fire Service Technician

About the role
This skilled position involves troubleshooting and repairing installed systems, including panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolving low-voltage circuit troubles, and system testing. You will organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support to assure efficient execution of all assigned tasks. The role requires programming fire alarm, security, and access control system panels, with experience in CCTV, IT, and IP networks being a plus. On-call and after-hours work is required occasionally to meet customer needs. You will provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes to ensure facilities run efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment/system malfunctions.
- Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment/systems problems.
- Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
- Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment.
- Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers’ Fire & Life Safety systems, including SimplexGrinnell.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as smartphones and laptop computers.
- Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service call assignments.
- Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
- Help train or mentor others on the service team.
- Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items.
- Act as a trusted advisor to customers, delivering solutions and outcomes at the time of service.
- Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
- Work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high-lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
- Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
- Adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
- Knowledge of test equipment, including multi-meters, digital analyzers, and commissioning devices.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Capable of working flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
- Retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.

Pay
Hiring hourly range: $25.19 - $34.66. Rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
