Fire Patroller - Entry

About the role

Eastman Emergency Services is seeking an entry-level Fire Patroller candidate. In this role, the candidate will start as a Fire Patroller – Entry (entry-level position) and will progress into the Fire Patroller position, reporting directly to an Emergency Services Shift Fire Captain (Team Manager). This position is located in Kingsport, TN. Non-certified/non-licensed candidates will be considered with the ability to obtain EMT/AEMT certifications within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Works a 12-hour rotating shift in the Fire Department.
• Responds to emergencies within the plant including fires, hazardous materials response, ambulance calls, confined space and high-angle rescues, and other emergencies reported through the 911 system.
• When not responding to emergencies, inspects and maintains fire protection equipment, looking for any abnormalities that would jeopardize the plant fire protection system (e.g., PFE, Fire Doors, Hydrants, Fire Valves, Fixed Fire Protection).
• Operates emergency equipment (e.g., Ambulance, Fire Engine, Hazmat Response Vehicle).
• Performs Fire/Security Dispatch operations using software such as: SAFER system, Eastman Alert system, Workplace Chemicals list, Keltron, Genetec, and Johnson Control Alarm Monitoring.

Requirements

• Safety mindset in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Basic computer skills including keyboarding, use of Outlook, and Microsoft standard applications.
• Daily client-focused mindset.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Good follow-through without close guidance.
• Ability to meet the medical qualification criteria of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582.
• Must meet respirator training guidelines and qualify for use of SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) respirators.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (required).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid TN or VA driver's license with the ability to obtain an "F" endorsement.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Future required certifications:
  • Basic EMT certification.
  • National Registry certification and other state license required to obtain a TN license.
  • TN Unarmed Security Officer License.
  • TN Fire Fighter II Certification.
  • Hazardous Materials Technician certification.
  • Completion of Northeast Regional Fire Training or provide 400 Hour Basic Recruit Fire Fighting Training or equivalent.
  • AEMT licensure.
  • Safety permit training.

Experience

Preferred: 1+ years of field experience.

Skills

Candidates must demonstrate basic knowledge and skills by completing the ACT WorkKeys assessment testing and attain required scores within 12 months of hire date. Required levels:

• Applied Mathematics - Level 6
• Graphic Literacy - Level 5
• Workplace Documents - Level 6
