About the role
Convergint is seeking a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Fire Alarm Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves installing, programming, performing system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training, and associated documentation on assigned projects, including more complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm & life safety, and building automation, with guidance as needed.
- Provide technical support and training to customers and colleagues, maximizing customer satisfaction.
- Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repair equipment, using knowledge of electronics and standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
- Write routine programs for systems.
- Act as "our customer's best service provider" at all times, ensuring Convergint is the customer's first choice for service.
- Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
- Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and standards, as well as suggestions for product improvements.
- Execute many technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
- Identify potential project risks, communicate to appropriate parties, and assist in developing and implementing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
- Work with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm system meets all relevant codes and standards.
- Assist in the overall coordination of specific projects, making recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identifying ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Qualifications
- Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
- Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
- Willingness to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems.
- To be a self-starter and work well with little supervision.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g., works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper).
- Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium complexity.
- Willingness to obtain necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry, and city/state.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Possession of NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems.
- Possession of low voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority.
SkillsUnderstanding of electronics to include Ohm’s law, resistor color code, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment.

Pay
The expected compensation range for this position is between $38 and $45 an hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
Minimal overnight travel may be required. Local travel to jobsites is frequent.
