About the role
Join our dynamic team as a Fire Alarm Technician. You will install, program, perform system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training, and all associated documentation on assigned projects, including more complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm & life safety, and building automation.
- Provide technical support and training for customers, acting as the primary point of contact.
- Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to repair equipment and utilize standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
- Write routine programs for systems.
- Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times, ensuring Convergint Technologies is the customer’s first choice for service.
- Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty.
- Advise management on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and suggest improvements.
- Execute many technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
- Identify potential project risks, communicate to appropriate parties, and assist in developing and implementing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs.
- Work with Fire Alarm Designers to ensure fire alarm systems meet all relevant codes and standards.
- Assist in the overall coordination of specific projects, making recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identifying ways to continuously improve.
- Travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis, with minimal overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
- Willingness to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security.
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with little supervision.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude, including working with a variety of hand and power tools.
- Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium size.
- Driven to achieve necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry, and city/state.
- Possession of NICET Level II in Fire Alarm and local/State Electrical License.
Skills
- Understanding of electronics, including Ohm’s law, resistor color code, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment.
- Knowledge of building, mechanical, sprinkler, and fire systems.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Requirements
- High School/GED or equivalent experience.
- Licenses & Certifications: Local/State Electrical License, NICET Level II – Fire Alarm Systems (preferred).
