About the role
Instruct students in all facets of 5th grade Visual Art and middle school Art 1 programming, as identified in our Frisco ISD Visual Art Curriculum, and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society through appropriate learning activities and experiences to help fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students in all facets of 5th grade Visual Art and middle school Art 1 programming, as identified in our Frisco ISD Visual Art Curriculum, and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society through appropriate learning activities and experiences to help fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
- Develop an annual calendar of student showcase opportunities and events in which campus participation is required (as outlined in the Frisco ISD Fine Arts Handbook) along with any other optional showcase or competition opportunities in which students may participate.
- Prepare student artwork for participation in required District, region, and state events as identified in the Frisco ISD Fine Arts Handbook.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Maintain educational records demonstrating student mastery and growth in curricular content.
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) as appropriate.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of all students.
- Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Accompany and supervise students for both on and off campus activities as appropriate.
- Be a positive role model for students.
- Support the mission of the Frisco Independent School District, to know each student by name and need.
- Ensure that program funds are managed wisely to stay within program budget allotment.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
- Moving and setting up equipment related to the content area; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment and supplies.
- Some districtwide and statewide travel.
- Some prolonged and/or irregular hours.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Visual Art or related field from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
- Extensive content knowledge
- Operational knowledge of all aspects of a 5th and 6th grade visual art program
- Effective classroom management and teaching skills
- Knowledge of state policies and expectations pertaining to visual art
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
