FINANCIAL COUNSELOR PAR I
About the role
The Financial Counselor PAR I plays a crucial role in the Moffitt Cancer Center's mission to prevent and cure cancer. This position supports patients by managing financial assistance applications, handling self-pay accounts, setting up payment arrangements, processing payments, and addressing billing inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Manage a call queue and support patients through financial assistance applications.
- Initiate and process payments for patient accounts, both hospital and physician billing.
- Confirm with insurance companies that all potential payment resources have been investigated and utilized.
- Detect and direct billing or coding issues to the relevant departments for resolution.
- Provide account status updates to patients and insurance companies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in a healthcare setting with emphasis in physician/hospital collections, insurance verification, or financial counseling
- Two (2) years of Moffitt Revenue Cycle experience can be considered in lieu of three (3) years' experience in physician/hospital collections or financial counseling
- Experience with physician/hospital collection or insurance verification
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations and various analysis techniques
- Working knowledge of third party regulation, collection laws, and techniques
- Excellent communication skills and customer service recovery skills
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
