About the role

The Vermont Department of Health Business Office is recruiting for a Financial Administrator I to join the budget team. This role involves developing budgets and expense projections for various divisions within the Department, monitoring spending against forecasts, analyzing expenses and trends, and tracking special fund revenue and expenses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain budgets and expense projections for assigned divisions.
  • Monitor spending against established forecasts and adjust as necessary.
  • Analyze expenses and trends to identify areas for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Track and report on special fund revenue and expenses.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.
  • Associate's degree in accounting, business/office administration AND two (2) years or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business/office administration.
  • One (1) year or more of experience as a Financial Specialist III with the State of Vermont.
  • Experience working with the VISION system (State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.

Qualifications

  • Training and/or experience in accounting, budgeting, economics, or financial analysis.
  • A desire to contribute to promoting the physical, mental, and social well-being of people in Vermont.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
