Finance Manager
Field Engine Wildlife Research & Management delivers science-based solutions to human–wildlife challenges worldwide, partnering with public agencies, private landowners, and conservation organizations. The Wildlife Services division leads applied wildlife management operations, while the product division develops technologies like the Pig Brig® Trap System. Field Engine collaborates with White Buffalo, Inc., a nonprofit with nearly 30 years of field experience, and is a Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) based in East Haddam, Connecticut.
About the role
This full-time, remote Finance Manager role oversees day-to-day financial operations for White Buffalo, Inc. (a 501(c)(3)) and Field Engine. The position manages budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance with regulations and organizational policies. Revenue stems from a mixed portfolio of contracts, including federal grants (subject to Uniform Guidance), IDIQ contracts, and commercial agreements, all managed through project-specific accounting.
Responsibilities
- Own project-based accounting across the full contract portfolio, including setup, compliance framework application, budget tracking, and closeout for reporting and audit purposes.
- Ensure federal compliance obligations: cost allowability, time and effort documentation, indirect cost recovery, subrecipient monitoring, and SEFA preparation for the annual single audit.
- Manage disciplined, project-level cost tracking and billing controls.
- Handle day-to-day accounting activities, including full-cycle payroll and accounts payable, with support from part-time administrative staff.
- Serve as the primary financial partner to the Director of Finance and Administration.
