About the role

The Field Service Supervisor arranges the movement of parcels by air and ground, encompassing international import and export operations. This position supervises airport ramp, warehouse sort, and back‑office activities while ensuring compliance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expedite daily operational activities to achieve client satisfaction and adhere to company policies.
  • Supervise day‑to‑day airport ramp operations, including loading and unloading cargo aircraft within internal compliance regulations and managing consolidations with commercial carriers.
  • Supervise warehouse sort operations processing international import and export shipments.
  • Supervise back‑office staff, monitor flights, communicate updates, and deploy contingencies as needed.
  • Work closely with US Customs and DHL Imports clearance department to ensure correct processing of shipments.
  • Develop and manage relationships with Business Partners.
  • Develop and implement special projects.
  • Ensure quality systems are implemented and maintained within the area of responsibility.
  • Manage Key Performance Indicators and cost levels; assist in annual budget preparation.
  • Provide technical product assistance to staff and advise on policy and goal changes.
  • Supervise a unionized workforce of 8‑12 staff; handle hiring, coaching, training, and development.
  • Assign work, set completion dates, review work, and manage performance according to organizational policies.
  • Set objectives and deliver results with a short‑term, operational focus.
  • Recommend process improvements; identify, define, and develop solutions to non‑obvious issues.
  • Maintain steady workflow and productivity, meet service/productivity standards, and resolve operational problems.
  • Heavy use of MS Office (especially Excel and Outlook) in daily activities.
  • Provide guidance, training, and motivation to exceed standards and achieve extraordinary results.
  • Contribute input to hiring, firing, layoff, promotion, reward, and other personnel decisions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in the function or business area.
  • Advanced understanding of specific aspects of supervised work and practical application to typical problems.
  • Knowledge of quality and productivity improvement practices, budgeting, cost control, and progressive techniques.
  • Basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
  • Typically requires a BS/BA and 2 years of related experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Professional certification required in some areas.
  • Valid driver’s license and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets Driving Privileges standards.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment background, drug, and medical physical screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lb occasionally.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lb frequently.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, reach overhead, squat, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch repeatedly.
