About the Role
As a Field Service Supervisor at DHL, you will arrange the movement of parcels by Air and Ground, encompassing international import and export operations. This role focuses on supervising day-to-day airport ramp operations, warehouse sort operations, and back-office staff to ensure client satisfaction, compliance, and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Expedite daily activities of all operational functions to achieve client satisfaction and adhere to company policies.
- Supervise day-to-day airport ramp operations, including loading and unloading of cargo aircraft within internal compliance regulations.
- Oversee warehouse sort operations for international import and export shipments.
- Manage back-office staff, monitor flights, communicate network updates, and deploy contingencies as necessary.
- Collaborate with US Customs and DHL Imports clearance department to ensure correct processing of shipments.
- Develop and manage relationships with business partners.
- Lead the development and implementation of special projects.
- Ensure the quality system is implemented and maintained within your area of responsibility.
- Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and cost levels.
- Assist in annual budget preparation.
- Provide technical product assistance to staff and advise on changes to company policies and goals.
- Supervise a unionized workforce of 8-12 staff, including hiring, coaching, training, and performance management.
- Assign work, set completion dates, review work, and manage performance in accordance with organizational policies.
- Set objectives and deliver results with a short-term, operational focus.
- Recommend process improvements and develop solutions for operational issues.
- Maintain steady workflow, productivity, and service standards while resolving operational problems.
- Use MS Office products (particularly Excel and Outlook) extensively in day-to-day activities.
- Provide guidance, training, and motivation to exceed standards and achieve extraordinary results.
- Contribute to hiring, firing, layoff, promotion, reward, and other personnel decisions.
Requirements
- Complete understanding and application of principles, theories, and concepts in logistics or related business area.
- Advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations.
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures related to quality, productivity improvements, training, budgeting, and cost control.
- Understanding of basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
- BS/BA degree and 2 years of experience in a related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
- Professional certification may be required in some areas.
- Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets DHL’s Driving Privileges standards.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must pass pre-employment background, drug, and medical physical screening.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to lift forty (40) lbs frequently.
- Must be able to walk, climb stairs, reach overhead, squat, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch repeatedly.
