What You Will Do
- Performs construction and maintenance work related to a Natural Gas Distribution system.
- Performs pipeline construction, installation, maintenance and removal work on transmission and distribution pipelines.
- Loads, unloads, and operates tools and equipment including:
- Pipe and crescent wrenches
- Pipe cutters and threaders
- Hammers and screwdrivers
- Picks, shovels, and rakes
- Air compressors and generators
- Plastic fusion irons
- Jackhammers and concrete saws
- Booms and chains
- Mini and large backhoe
- Combustible Gas Indicators
- Tapping equipment
- No blow equipment
- Forklift
- Respirators
- Oxygen analyzer
- Fuel truck and check fluid levels
- Apply lubricants
- Change oil and filters
- Cleaning/adjusting tools
- Low Pressure calls
- Class 1 Leaks
- Blowing lines
- Fires/explosions
- Undetectable lines
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of use, function and maintenance of manual tools and equipment applicable to the position.
- Knowledge of application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (tested).
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
- Working knowledge and training relative to:
- Working in excavations and confined spaces
- Basic customer service activities
- Company and governmental operating/safety procedures
- Fusing plastic pipe
- Characteristics of natural gas
- Knowledge of plastic fusion
- Understanding of how to read and interpret maps, atlas pages, blueprints, and job orders.

Other Requirements
- Climb into and out of excavations
- Travel over uneven terrain including: Mud, Gravel, Sand, Rocks, Ice, and Snow
- React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others
- Smell odorant in natural gas
- Detect and react to warning signals at work sites
- Ability to operate tools and equipment required
- Communicate and exchange information and instructions including use of company two-way radio and company cell phones
- Peripheral vision and accurate depth perception
- Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties
