Responsibilities
- Perform pipeline construction, installation, maintenance, and removal work on transmission and distribution pipelines.
- Load, unload, and operate tools and equipment including but not limited to:
- Pipe and crescent wrenches
- Pipe cutters and threaders
- Hammers and screwdrivers
- Picks, shovels, and rakes
- Air compressors and generators
- Plastic fusion irons
- Jackhammers and concrete saws
- Booms and chains
- Mini and large backhoe
- Combustible Gas Indicators
- Tapping equipment
- Forklift
- Respirators
- Oxygen analyzer
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment including but not limited to:
- Fueling truck and checking fluid levels
- Applying lubricants
- Changing oil and filters
- Cleaning/adjusting tools
- Investigate customer-related orders and/or emergency situations including but not limited to:
- Low Pressure calls
- Class 1 Leaks
- Blowing lines
- Fires/explosions
- Undetectable lines
- Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
- May be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of use, function, and maintenance of manual tools and equipment applicable to the position.
- Knowledge of application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (tested).
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance of transmission and/or distribution pipeline systems.
- Working knowledge and training relative to:
- Working in excavations and/or confined spaces
- Basic customer service activities
- Company and governmental operating/safety procedures
- Fusing plastic pipe
- Characteristics of natural gas
- Knowledge in basic computer functions and relevant software.
- Knowledge of plastic fusion.
- Understanding of how to read and interpret maps, atlas pages, blueprints, and job orders.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
- Required applicable driver's license.
- Required applicable Operator Qualifications.
- Required CDL eligible.
Additional Requirements
- Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds 10-15 times a day; up to 40 pounds 7-10 times a day; over 50 pounds 5-6 times a day.
- Climb into and out of excavations.
- Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to:
- Mud
- Gravel
- Sand
- Rocks
- Ice
- Snow
- React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
- Smell odorant in natural gas.
- Detect and react to warning signals at work sites.
- Able to operate tools and equipment required.
- Communicate and/or exchange information and instructions including use of company two-way radio and/or company cell phones.
- Peripheral vision and accurate depth perception.
- Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
