Field Sr Specialist, Inspection
About the Role
Performs an advanced level of inspection work on company pipelines. This position will drive the mobile Leak truck for Wichita and Southwest operations area and will conduct the DOT compliance survey.
Responsibilities
- Travel up to 40% of the year.
- Inspects installation, maintenance, and removal work performed by employees and/or contractors on transmission and distribution pipelines to ensure compliance and/or identify noncompliance with company and governmental standards.
- Trains and tests employees performing steel welding and/or plastic fusion.
- Assists with operation and/or maintenance of tools and equipment, including:
- Pipe and crescent wrenches
- Pipe cutters and threaders
- Hammers and screwdrivers
- Picks, shovels, and rakes
- Air compressors and generators
- Plastic fusion equipment
- CGI, flame-ionization unit
- Jiggle bar
- Leak survey equipment
- Tapping and plugging
- Drives and maintains vehicle.
- Maintains logs; compiles and prepares reports including but not limited to:
- Inspection logs
- Job order completion information
- Training/testing records
- Mileage reports
- Accident/first aid reports
- Expense Reports
- Provides information, advice, and/or assistance to employees, contractors, landowners, public/governmental officials, and others relative to construction and/or maintenance standards, policies, and procedures applicable to work in progress.
- Assumes supervisor responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Safety monitoring
- Drug monitoring
- OQ monitoring and OQ Field Evaluations
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Seven to ten years of relevant experience (minimum of six years’ relevant experience is required).
- Experience in use, function, and maintenance of tools and equipment applicable to the position, including accessing and utilizing computer applications.
- Experience with the application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including decimals and percentages (tested).
- Experience with and thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and/or industry standards and regulations regarding pipeline construction and safety.
- Experience and training relative to:
- Company Gas Operations Standards Manual (GOSM) procedures
- Emergency response procedures
- Welding/plastic fusion policies and procedures
- One Call System policies and procedures
- Interpersonal/communication skills
- Knowledge of function and/or maintenance of regulators, chart meters, well meters, cathodic protection, and leakage survey and remote methane leak device.
- Experience reading and interpreting maps, atlas pages, blueprints, budget information, and job orders.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer operation and relevant software.
- Experience leading, directing, and/or training.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
Qualifications
- Applicable driver's license.
- Qualified Plastic Fusion Technician certification (as specified by position).
- Qualified Steel Welding certification (as specified by position).
Additional Requirements
- Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds 10-15 times a day; up to 40 pounds 7-10 times a day; up to 50 pounds 10-12 times a day.
- Climb into and out of excavations and onto and off of equipment.
- Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to mud, gravel, sand, rocks, ice, and snow.
- React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
- Smell odorant in natural gas.
- Detect and react to warning signals at work sites.
- Able to operate tools and equipment required.
- Perform maintenance on the company leak truck and all related leakage survey equipment.
- Communicate and/or exchange information or instructions verbally, including use of company two-way radios or cellular telephones.
- Peripheral vision and accurate depth perception.
- Visual ability sufficient to perform job duties.
