About the role
This role supports field Service operation within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the expanding installed sites in the region.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS Systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.
- Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines.
- Support and perform pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans.
- Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients.
- Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project's technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.
- Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed.
- Accurately describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures which they have observed.
- Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems.
- Perform basic corrective maintenance.
- Create/modify Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required.
- When using contractors on sites, act as the Lead to ensure the contractors submit daily activity reports and JSA reports and work follows Sungrow standards and expectations.
- Prepare and submit own Daily Activity Reports and Daily JSA Reports.
- Work independently in the field and with Design Engineers to resolve high-level technical issues, support the investigation of the root cause for technology applications for complex projects.
- Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistic, financial, and program management disciplines to maintain the solar plant operations.
- Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
- Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirements.
- Serve as a safety second if needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Renewable industry experience is desired.
- Power Electronics experience is desired.
- OSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
- NFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
Qualifications
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Motivated self-starter with complex problem-solving abilities.
- A ‘completer-finisher’ taking accountability for ideas from inception to delivery in an environment that requires robust metrics to confirm the success.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.
- 3 plus years of overall experience in a technical field.
- 2 years of experience in solar inverters or BESS.
- Must possess the ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required.
- Must be able to closely follow instructions and pre-established procedures/SOP to perform the ductions of the job.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- OSHA, NFPA70A, Electrical Safety.
- Experience and/or certification with MV transformers a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Travel 80%.
