Field Service Technician (Detroit/Ann Arbor Michigan area)

The Field Service Engineer is a field-based, customer-facing role responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, and implementing field corrective actions for BD Life Sciences equipment at customer sites in clinical and research laboratories. This role represents BD to customers and requires compliance with all Quality, GMP, ISO, and safety regulations while adhering to company travel policies.
Responsibilities
- Provide service, preventive maintenance, modifications, and installations of BD Life Sciences equipment at customer sites with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshoot system failures and provide on-site customer repairs, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
- Manage company assets, including cell phone, computer, tablet, tools, and inventory parts.
- Establish and foster positive business relationships with customers and peers.
- Perform administrative duties such as recording time worked, training, and expense reporting.
- Provide ongoing feedback to customers regarding instrument repair and status.
- Interface regularly with the Technical Support organization to deliver the highest level of customer support.
- Work closely with district team leads and dispatch to schedule and support the customer base.
Requirements
- Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or similar engineering discipline, or equivalent military training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and computer-based tools for reports, email, and general communication.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface positively with customers, peers, and support personnel.
- Logical and methodical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness and ability to work different shifts, on-call, nights, and weekends as needed.
- Understanding of basic computer security concepts and best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving history, meeting BD’s auto safety standards.
- Flexibility to travel up to 50% of the time outside of the home geographic area, based on business needs.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs infrequently.
- Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for prolonged periods (up to 10 hours).
- Ability to push/pull materials up to 100 lbs.
- Adherence to all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) standards/guidelines required by company policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Biomedical program certification or equivalent.
- Computer networking or computer science background.
Schedule
This role requires a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week for most positions. Field-based roles may have different workplace arrangements. Willingness to work different shifts, on-call, nights, and weekends as needed.
Pay
Hourly rate ranges from $18.70 to $29.90 USD, based on qualifications and experience.
