Field Service Rep - West/Northwest (Physical Properties)

About the Role

PAC is seeking a self-motivated Field Service Technician responsible for maintaining and servicing customer accounts in the West/Northwest Region of the United States. The role requires travel to other parts of the country and internationally as needed, covering CA, NV, OR, AK, HI, WA, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, NE, CO, and other locations. Candidates must live near a major airport, preferably Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, or Denver.

The Field Service Technician will install, configure, calibrate, certify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and operate PAC’s Physical Properties instruments at customer sites. Responsibilities include providing product training, building customer relationships, and assisting with application troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Performs installations, preventive maintenance, calibration, and breakdown repairs on PAC’s Physical Properties analytical instruments used in refining, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
• Provides telephone support as needed.
• Runs calibration and check standards per ASTM and/or customized methods to ensure analyzers meet or exceed performance specifications.
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment in the field.
• Works with sales counterparts to upsell/cross-sell PAC products and services.
• Provides technical support to ensure the correct product is chosen and used for customer applications.
• Assists with PAC’s strategic growth initiatives and understands the installed base of PAC and competitors.
• Proactively learns and teaches PAC’s new products to provide service support on newly launched products.
• Notifies quality of any premature or recurring product/part failures using appropriate communication tools.
• Performs product training during service visits, if needed.
• Services, installs, and troubleshoots PAC software.
• Performs pre-commissioning activities including system checkout, instrumentation calibration, and communication testing.
• Installs and operates test apparatus to produce, regulate, and record effects of conditions such as flash point, distillation, cold properties, evaporative loss, viscosity, vibration, and other physical properties testing.
• Tests and tunes company products, including machinery testing, control loop tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Uses hand tools, computerized equipment, test equipment, and software to perform testing and repairs.
• Manages assigned inventory for repairs, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
• Maintains and expands knowledge of product specifications.
• Provides recommendations for new product development based on product performance, applications, and customer needs.
• Mentors less experienced field service personnel and customers.
• Prepares administrative tasks (expenses, reports, etc.) and NPS surveys.
• Follows all company and customer safety policies and procedures while on-site.
• Assists with special projects and responds to change productively.

Requirements

• Associate degree in chemistry or electronics, or equivalent experience; a technical B.S. degree is a plus.
• Minimum five years’ experience working with analytical equipment in the petrochemical industry, or equivalent experience and education.
• Knowledge of the petroleum/refining industry and ASTM methods related to PAC instruments is a plus.
• Two years of relevant field service experience preferred.
• Experience with applications such as distillation, flash point, cold flow, thermal oxidation, and sulfur analysis.

Skills

• Understanding of sample conditioning systems used for process analyzers.
• Familiarity with process communications including 4-20 mA current loops, Modbus, and TCPIP networking is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock when in operations, laboratory areas, or on customer sites.
• Noise level in the office is usually moderate but may occasionally be high due to an open office environment.
• When performing on-site service, noise and exposure levels may vary depending on customer site conditions.

Additional Qualifications

• 90% travel required, including potential international travel.
• Current driver’s license and passport (provided at company expense when required).

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position, based in California, Washington, and Colorado, is $36.00 - $43.00. The salary within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, including skills, knowledge, education, experience, and location.
