JOB SUMMARY
The Area Manager will play a pivotal role in driving growth within a designated region. This position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced water treatment professional to step into a leadership track: initially focusing on business development and customer growth, then expanding into leading, mentoring, and developing a team of Account Managers. This is the ideal next step for someone who has already built a solid foundation in industrial water treatment sales/service or a related industry and is ready to take on a broader leadership role!
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead business development activities and grow Apex's customer base in assigned geographic region
- Mentor, coach, and lead a team of Account Managers to achieve growth and retention goals
- Sell and service key strategic accounts while building long-term customer partnerships
- Develop and execute a business plan and regional sales strategy aligned with company goals
- Drive both individual and team success through performance reviews, training, and skill development
- Collaborate on marketing and sales campaigns, including proposal presentations and RFP responses
- Provide timely, insightful feedback to senior leadership on market conditions and team performance
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pricing, and reporting for your region
- Manage expenses and ensure compliance with company policies, safety guidelines, and ethics standards
- Adhere to and support all safety policies and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years of experience in technical sales and service in industrial water treatment, specialty chemicals or related industry
- Two (2) years of team leadership or mentorship experience
- Strong working knowledge of cooling tower systems, steam generation, and closed-loop water systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and business development skills
- Mechanical/technical aptitude and ability to thrive in hands-on customer environments
- Ability to work independently and travel within the territory (3-4 nights/month)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Five (5) plus years of experience in water treatment technical sales and service
- Proven track record of consistently achieving and exceeding sales goals
- Leadership experience with demonstrated success in building and growing high-performing teams
