About the role

The Field Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for multiple companies with over 600 employees. This position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in various payroll functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and process all timecards, corrections, and adjustments from field locations.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely delivery of payroll checks to all site locations.
  • Calculate and prepare manual layoff/termination/adjustment checks.
  • Process transfers to ensure checks print in the correct location.
  • Maintain and update rate changes for employees and process retro payments if required.
  • Set up garnishments, third-party payments, and process terminations.
  • Run Transfer to GL and keep current on state and federal regulations to ensure accurate compliance with payroll accounting laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Process and set up credit union accounts and payments.
  • Provide training to subordinates and assist in payroll-related month-end closing activities.
  • Produce payroll reports as required for state, federal, union, or corporate reporting purposes.

Requirements

  • Achieved a minimum of 6 years’ work experience in payroll, preferably with a union employer.
  • Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), with Oracle preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing requirements, and work under time pressure.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others.

Qualifications

  • Attention to detail.
  • Organizational awareness.
  • 10-key, light typing skills.
  • Ability to work in a general work environment with varying environmental conditions and noise levels.
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.

Skills

  • Proficient in in-house software and experienced in downloading and transmitting report details.
