Field Engineer I- Structured Cable - Remote

About the role

The Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling will install and operate low-voltage/structured cabling systems and equipment, troubleshoot equipment problems, and provide senior service support.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems, including testing and field verification of connections, labels, installation, and work quality.
• Interpret advanced system drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
• Create shop drawings and submittals for new project kick-offs.
• Manage technical work in the field with minimal supervision, both in-house and on-site.
• Assume ownership of project installation and support field staff and project managers with advanced technical assistance.
• Complete project punch-lists for closeouts and oversee technical aspects of projects.
• Quality-check projects, test equipment and functionality, and create punch lists.
• Assist sales staff with product and system demonstrations.
• Conduct detailed field walks for prospective or change order opportunities, providing written scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability notes to assist Estimating.
• Identify and document existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and access limitations during site assessments to inform bid strategies and value engineering options.
• Interface with subcontractors during pre-construction activities, coordinating site walks, reviewing scope alignment, and obtaining written proposals or bids.
• Serve as a technical liaison between the field and Pre-Construction/Estimating, bridging gaps in design intent, sequence of operations, and field feasibility.
• Assist the Quality and Training department by developing or delivering structured guidance for Leads and Superintendents on project setup, documentation, and workflow planning.
• Support the development of best practices and job readiness materials for new leaders regarding job closeout, documentation control, and startup execution.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to read, write, and deliver oral presentations effectively.
• Ability to diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installations.
• Enthusiastic, patient, and a critical thinker with excellent customer service skills.
• High skill level in interpreting blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
• Ability to travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and MS Project).
• Meets company minimum driving standards.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to define a project, create a scope of work, develop detailed tasks, and manage them to final completion and customer turnover.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least 3-4 years of commercial low-voltage/structured cabling experience.
• Ability to work well with others.

Pay

$25.00 – $30.00 per year (USD).
