About the role

The Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling is a technical lead responsible for supporting the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance of low-voltage and structured cabling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, test, troubleshoot, and diagnose structured cabling and low-voltage systems.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manuals; create shop drawings and project submittals.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to field staff, ensuring quality installations and successful project execution.
  • Conduct equipment testing, system verification, quality inspections, and punch list management.
  • Oversee technical aspects of projects and support project managers during installation and closeout.
  • Perform site assessments and field walks to identify project requirements, existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and change order opportunities.
  • Develop detailed scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability recommendations to support estimating and proposal development.
  • Cook up with subcontractors during pre-construction activities, including site walks, scope reviews, and bid collection.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between field operations and pre-construction/estimating teams to ensure project feasibility and alignment.
  • Aid in product demonstrations and provide technical expertise to sales teams when needed.
  • Support quality and training initiatives by developing guidance, best practices, and job readiness materials for field leaders.
  • Aid in training Leads and Superintendents on project setup, documentation management, workflow planning, and startup execution.

  • Must have proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must be able to diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installs.
  • Must be enthusiastic, passionate, patient and a critical thinker.
  • Must be able to communicate with the customer and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must be able to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.

Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements

  • Must have at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Will have at least 3-4 years of commercial low voltage/structured cabling experience.
  • Must be able to work well with other people.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.

Pay

Min USD $27.00/Hr. Max USD $33.00/Hr.
