This role will give first preference to individuals who reside or are willing to reside in the Phoenix, AZ area. Secondary preference given to individuals who reside or are willing to reside close to our Headquarters in the greater Binghamton, NY area.

About the role

Provides application engineering support to the external customer base, sales organization, and the product team for the assigned product offerings and related manufacturing processes. Determines customer's existing and evolving technical application needs and applies or adapts products to satisfy those needs. Provides support both before and after the sale, coordinating all issues with the appropriate product team to ensure accurate, detailed understanding and timely resolution of customer expectations and ongoing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with sales and customers as an engineer on specific pre-sale or post-sale product and process application issues.
  • Evaluates feasibility and alternatives with the customer.
  • Evaluates the significance of requested product applications or modifications with the product team, considering customer expectations, timing, and resource availability.
  • Reviews customer's PCB design and identifies projected savings based on proposed equipment use.
  • May use PC price/performance software to prepare production capability and financial ROI analysis for capital equipment justification.
  • Determines with Engineering if requested product applications or modifications are feasible; enters RFQ if feasible or responds with alternatives if not.
  • Assists engineering or product team in developing quotations, including development time, cost, and schedule.
  • Assists in developing manufacturing cost and schedule.
  • May assemble and test application tooling and integrate into base machines.
  • Works with product team and sales to establish quotations.
  • Explains quotations for product applications or modifications to the customer, including justifications.
  • Assists sales with technical customer presentations.
  • May monitor engineering development and delivery schedule, advising customer and salesperson of progress.
  • Supports field engineering on installations to ensure machines and equipment meet customer specifications.
  • May assist in providing technical training to customers’ employees.
  • Identifies need for sales tools and training relative to product or process applications; assists the product team in developing those tools.
  • Assists in the development of new equipment specifications, performance requirements, features, and enhancements.
  • Presents papers at trade shows and technical seminars to enhance the company’s reputation for product and process capability.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience in the capital goods industry.
  • Experience in support of printed circuit board assembly equipment or equivalent is preferred.

Quality & Procedures

Adheres to the company’s Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem-solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

Physical Demands

  • Requires frequent computer use.
  • Requires the ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with colleagues and in presentations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer sites or technical conferences roughly 40%-50% of the time.

Pay

Target annual base salary: $85,000 - $90,000.
