Responsibilities
- Safely perform work in communications spaces
- Participate in work requiring pole climbing when necessary
- Perform work from an elevated position in the bucket truck
- Cable stripping, cleaving, terminating, and testing
- Proficiently work with fiber optic equipment such as splicers, OTDR, traffic identifiers, light-source power-meter, fiber specific hand tools, etc.
- Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services
- Troubleshoot and repair common fiber optic equipment and component issues
- Lead and mentor less experienced coworkers
Requirements
- 2-4 years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred
- Mastery of Field Technician I Job Duties
- Qualify to work safely in energized spaces
- Operate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set)
- Qualify to perform work from an elevated position in the bucket truck
- Assist with worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspections
- Assist with performing minor field repairs on equipment
- Learn Industry Standard coding for fiber optics
- Learn proper methods and procedures for terminating, splicing, and testing fiber optic cables
- Learn to perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services
- Learn to read and understand manufacturer manuals and standards for operating, installing, and repairing electronic equipment, product, and components
- Learn to troubleshoot and repair common fiber optic equipment and component issues
- Install demarcation enclosures, switches, and other telecom equipment
- Route premise cable both inside and outside of facilities
- Assist in the completion of documentation to include record-keeping, billing, and inventory
- Learn to calibrate fiber optic equipment out in the field according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Able to identify independent colors and learn color codes
- Valid Driver’s License is required
- Experience with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, cable puller, and reel stands preferred
