About the role
In the role of Federal Engineering Manager (EM), you will be responsible for:
- Developing a partnership with a Project Manager (PM) to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, budget, and client management.
- Leading the technical team and executing project deliverables.
- Assigning project tasks and providing technical guidance to the project team.
- Supporting the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development, progress assessment, risk assessment, change management, and schedule management.
- Directing, mentoring, and/or training one or more Project Engineers, EIT’s, or CADD/Designers.
- Coordinating and performing quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
- Leading multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Identifying and developing specific technical expertise under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leaders.
- Attending training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
- Assisting with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences and events.
- Participating in project reviews with management as needed.
Responsibilities

Requirements
Requirements include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
- A professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
- Advanced knowledge of low voltage and high voltage electrical systems that may include electrical layouts as well as protections & coordination (relays, breakers, protective device coordination studies).
- An understanding of cybersecurity requirements for electrical infrastructure.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.

Skills
Skills required include:
- Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Ability to interpret IEEE, NFPA 70 (NEC), and NESC standards as they relate to Navy/DoD installations.
- Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
- Experience with DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
