Family Nurse Practitioner position within the Arizona State Hospital (ASH), which provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness needing long-term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for patients and creates opportunities for participation in planning, delivering, and evaluating recovery-focused services. Treatment is individualized with goals centered on illness education, instilling hope, and improving overall quality of life.

About the role

Within the Scope of Practice, the Family Nurse Practitioner provides inpatient medical care to patients at the Arizona State Hospital. This position is responsible for medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment; prescribing medication; ordering lab tests and other procedures via the electronic Physician Order Entry system; completing required documentation in the Electronic Medical Record; participating in hospital committees; and assisting in developing policies and procedures. The role involves coordination with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive care and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts provider lines and prescribes required treatment/procedures for patients.
  • Performs minor surgery and other treatments as authorized by licensure and approved by supervising physician.
  • Performs emergency procedures as required.
  • Attends hospital committees and medical staff meetings.
  • Completes required documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the position (typically 5% - 10%).

Requirements

  • Must possess a current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • A State hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1758.07 or must apply for one within seven working days after beginning employment.
  • If driving or using a vehicle is an essential function of the job, must meet Driver’s License Requirements.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts for Direct Care staff.
  • Alternative work schedules and flexible hours for non-direct care staff.
