Family Medicine Float Pool Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

About the Role

This position works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff to care for outpatient clinic patients. Under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician, you will work alongside primary care coordinators (PCCs), staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development, patient education, and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Utilize approved medical practices in delivering patient care.
• Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and age-specific criteria.
• Maintain an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology.
• Provide educational experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
• Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, including respect for privacy, communication style, and explanation of services.
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Comply with the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in nursing or Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
• Preferred: 3 years of related working experience.
• Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice or current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
• Certifications:
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANPCP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANPCP) certification.
  • For Physician Assistants: National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (APRN) or State Board of Medical Examiners (PA).
• Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications, role-specific software, and keyboard.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department and system levels.
• Reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7 availability, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and negligible to 10 pounds constantly.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity required.
• Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; occupational risk for communicable diseases.
• Potential exposure to hazardous medications or waste within the healthcare environment.
