About the Program

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) is a purpose-driven institution committed to advancing social justice and community transformation through higher education. The MCNY Fatherhood Initiative, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), empowers fathers and father figures—both custodial and noncustodial—to strengthen family relationships, achieve economic stability, and engage more fully in their children’s lives. The program combines workforce training, parenting education, college access, and wraparound support services through partnerships with community-based organizations, employers, and city agencies.

About the Role

MCNY is hiring two Family Development Coaches to provide individualized support to fathers participating in the Fatherhood Initiative. Each Coach will play a critical role in helping participants achieve their educational, employment, and family goals through one-on-one coaching, case management, and connection to community resources. Reporting to the Fatherhood Program Director, the Coaches will work closely with program staff and partners to ensure high-quality, participant-centered services aligned with DYCD performance measures and MCNY’s Purpose-Centered Education model.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments to identify participants’ strengths, challenges, and goals related to parenting, employment, and education.
• Develop individualized family development plans and provide regular one-on-one coaching to support goal achievement.
• Coordinate referrals for education, employment, housing, legal, and health services.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate parenting, life skills, and financial literacy workshops.
• Maintain consistent communication with participants to support engagement, retention, and completion.
• Document all services and outcomes in DYCD Connect and internal data systems.
• Work collaboratively with MCNY Career Services, STRIVE, Union Settlement, and other partner organizations to ensure access to workforce and support services.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and cross-agency trainings.
• Assist in outreach, recruitment, and orientation of new participants.
• Support planning and implementation of family engagement and community events.
• Ensure compliance with DYCD guidelines for participant eligibility, service delivery, and documentation.
• Prepare reports, case notes, and follow-up summaries as required by the Program Director.
• Contribute to program evaluation and continuous quality improvement efforts.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Experience working with NYC public systems (e.g., ACS, HRA, OCSS) strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Occasional evening hours (typically until 8:00 p.m.) and up to two Saturdays per month to accommodate participant workshops, family engagement events, and community outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Experience working with custodial and noncustodial fathers, or in fatherhood, workforce, or reentry programs.
• Familiarity with DYCD-funded programs or performance tracking systems such as DYCD Connect.
• Proficiency in case management platforms.
• Compassionate, patient, and goal-oriented approach to supporting families.
• Strong crisis management and problem-solving abilities.
• Culturally responsive and trauma-informed mindset.
• Team players committed to collaboration and accountability.
