Family Development Coach

Brooklyn, New York (Bed-Stuy & Clinton Hill) • Full-time, 35 hours per week

About the role

The Family Development Coach manages the day-to-day operations of the Neighborhood Development Area (NDA) Grant at Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School. The NDA program serves 35 students, providing assessment, service planning, case management, and intervention work. The role supports attendance, academic and social-emotional learning, connects students to internships, and makes referrals to resources. The coach is on-site five days a week, overseeing student and family support services, programming, and partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage a program of 35 students, delivering assessment, service planning, case management, and intervention within the school setting.
• Provide monthly coaching to each student to develop service plans and set goals related to attendance, educational and career counseling, college readiness, grade performance, internship participation, housing assistance, and parenting skills training.
• Arrange, coordinate, and implement initiative strategies, services, and resources in consultation with the Community School Assistant Director and school administration, aligning with NDA grant requirements.
• Supervise and collaborate with Activity Specialists to ensure quality programming, conduct workshops, and provide group training for participants and families.
• Connect families to community resources such as job development and food insecurity programs.
• Ensure timely submission of attendance and case management data into appropriate systems (DYCD CONNECT).
• Participate in ongoing professional development workshops provided by GSS, DYCD, and other organizations.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree preferred or working toward it.
• Minimum of two years of experience providing assessment, service planning, case management, and intervention work with adolescents, preferably within the school community.
• Minimum of two years of experience collaborating with public schools and community-based organizations to improve outcomes for at-risk students.
• Complete the Family Development Credential Program (FDC), a New York State professional development training, within a year of hire.
• Experience with assets and needs analysis, community organizing, problem-solving, networking, and developing relationships with private and public partners.
• Experience in program management and improving access to resources for students, parents, school staff, and community members.
• Flexible schedule with willingness to work school hours, evenings, and weekends for parent/teacher conferences and school or agency events.
• Experience working with low-income families and communities.

Pay

$40,000 per year

Schedule

• Full-time, 35 hours per week.
• Core hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
• Late evenings and two Saturdays per month required.
